A science of behavior requires rigorous investigations of behavior- environment interations of humans and nonhumans alike; the environment encompasing the biological, social, and physical milleu in which the organism resides. Twenty-first century living requires human interfaces with technology that additionally require close attention to adaptive functioning in a constantly changing tech environment
The oldest in the experimental analysis of behavior, animal research has included work with rodents (mostly rats and mice), avians (mostly pigeons), and apes (usually rhesus monkeys), forming the bedrock of empirically sound behavioral principles today
Interests in extending results of animal studies in the lab with human participants have proven very productive resulting in new research areas like behavioral economics, stimulus equivalence, and delay discounting, tackling topics hitherto considered only in the purview of cognitive psychology
With new insights in human research, behavior analysis is poised to tackle the21stcenturychallenges that come with rapidly changing technology domains in which humans must conduct their affairs at work, at home, and in schools on a daily basis. Learning, with new transformations in the educational landscape, is a wholly different enterprise
